Notes on Proprioception mini-series (shown below):
Proprioception is a medical term referring to our interoceptive capacity to perceive internal sensations. Much like the 5 perceptual senses that enable us to process external stimuli, proprioception allows us to perceive internal physical sensations such as muscle contraction, organ discomfort and the like. Although almost invisible to the eye, the Proprioception mini-series was made through a complex process of layering. Photographs of food, actual endoscopic images of the digestive system and x-rays were used to make acrylic gel transfers, which were then superimposed onto bark and covered in layers of oil glazing.
